Dear Fellow Professionals,

On the occasion of World IP Day 2020, my warm greetings to you for a rewarding year ahead in nurturing innovation and building pathways to a green future. We are in the midst of hectic efforts to decipher the Corona virus and find preventive and curative solutions at this juncture. India is on par with other countries developing vaccines and therapeutic candidates with academic innovation combined with the speed of private sector acceleration bringing these candidates to the forefront of validation. I am confident we will get vaccines, diagnostic devices and drug dosages within the national research system providing the ability to not only address the challenge in India but support other needy countries.

We have seen vibrant academic research rising to the challenge of the call for scientific break-through. The swift partnerships formed with the private sector in translating these innovations to products is feasible due to institutional encouragement and strong institutional intent to contribute to the development of rapid solutions to the pandemic. These innovations are also nurtured in an environment that supports academic technology transfer to industry in a mutually gainful manner, leveraging the strength of both partners in development and delivery. I am also thrilled to see very timely funding for development forthcoming from leading scientific bodies in the country with high-quality competition driving the urge for bringing the cutting edge products to the market fore. The rapid transfer of innovation to the private sector and the collaborative convergence of public institutions in co-development is feasible with professional support provided by Technology Transfer Professionals. Every invention at this challenging time has lasting value for creating a safer world. We also have the responsibility to support early-stage enterprises that have placed enormous energy and perseverance at this time to bring their products to the forefront at a time large enterprises are struggling to muster their resources for a swift action. We see a much more symbiotic relationship emerging between senior and junior corporate entities, driven by the common goal of finding a solution for the pandemic.

The theme of World IP Day 2020 is Creating a green future. New knowledge created in every discipline that has the potential to create a green future needs to be recognized as an asset and its value should be nurtured with due protection and commitment for its delivery to create economic value. India is a biodiversity-rich country and our potential to create a green future is enormous.

In closing let me wish all the members of STEM a productive professional engagement in adopting best practices and in nurturing the innovation boom that we are beginning to witness in India.

With best wishes,

Vijayaraghavan
Hon. President, STEM.
