STEM Annual Summit 2019- IP Powering the 5 Trillion Economy
STEM Annual Summit 2019 titled, IP Powering the 5 Trillion Economy, held on 6 – 7 December in Radisson Hotel Hitec City, witnessed an extraordinary turnout of over 100 delegates. The exciting one and a half day event, comprised of technical sessions, panel discussions, STEM Impact Awards, Technology Showcase and Networking Dinner. The Summit included speakers and participation from delegates in key profiles such as Legal Vice Presidents, IP Managers, technology managers, Law firm senior partners, policy makers from MNCs, law firms, start-ups, public sector institutions, private institutions and policy making institutions.
Since its genesis, the Society for Technology Management (STEM) has been focused on capacity building in the domain of technology management in India. The increasing attendance of delegates, is reflective of the growing importance and awareness of technology management and the need for networking and understanding the best practices in this domain.
The STEM 2019 Summit was made possible by generous sponsorship support from the lead sponsor, Anand & Anand, and other co-sponsors including Sathguru Management Consultants, K&S Partners, SKS Law Associates, Beckman Coulter. Cleavland Scott York, a leading firm of UK and European patent and trade mark attorneys, sponsored the Technology Showcase event. Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) were the support partners for outreach.
The Summit witnessed a fine mix of Indian and global expert speakers from public and private sectors including: Abhijit Banerjee, Ajit Rangnekar, Amit Thukral, Amitabh Mohanty, Deepanwita Chattopadhyay, Dwarkesh Parihar, Guriqbal Singh Jaiya , Immanuel Selvaraj, Jitendra Kumar, John Fraser, K. Subodh Kumar, K. Vijayaraghavan, Kalpana Sastry, Kiran Sharma, M. S. Bharath, Magesh Nandagopal, Malathi Lakshmikumaran, Marc Sedam, Meenakshi Kanojia, Nilay Lakhar , Nita Sachan, Pushpa Vijayaraghavan, Ramam Atmakuri, Ramesh Loganathan, Ramesh Verma, Ravi Bhogu, S. R. Rao, Sanjay Bhardwaj, Shirshendu Mukherjee, Sunita K Sreedharan, Vijay Nadiminti, and Vinay Mehta. On the first day of the Summit, the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) Chair elect, Mr. Marc Sedam and the STEM Board Members, Mr. K. Vijayaraghavan (President – STEM) and Dr. Shirshendu Mukherjee (Secretary – STEM) welcomed the delegates and gave a motivating introduction on the importance of Technology management. This was followed by a series of panel discussions on various aspects of technology trends and Intellectual property protection other than patents by the speakers. There was enthusiastic response from the public and private institutions for the Summit and there was an active participation in the sessions and discussions from all the delegates. The impact of the talks and discussions was clearly visible by the post presentation Q&A sessions and the discussions that spilled over into the tea and meal breaks.
The highlight of the first day of the Summit was the STEM Impact Awards and the release of the STEM Impact stories. The impact awards had five winners, who were selected by a rigorous process. The other 10 impactful innovations featured in the Impact Stories were a collection of the innovations which were submitted, shortlisted, and had created a social &/or economic impact. Another key feature at the summit was the technology showcasing session. This session provided an opportunity for incubators, start-ups and institutions to some of the institutions to showcase their technologies and network with prospective partners. The Summit had some interesting discussions and debate and ended on a high note with the distribution of certificates.
