The National Biopharma Mission is an industry- academia collaborative mission of Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in collaboration with World Bank for accelerating discovery research to early development of Biopharmaceuticals and to be implemented by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). NBM also focuses on skill development for Technology Strengths and Technology Management to boost the quality of translational research in the country.
With a focus to enhance Technology Transfer capacity within public and private research institutions in India, NBM partnered with STEM for delivering programs that will confer CE credits to the participants to pursue their Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP) certifications.
Basic and Intermediate Level Programs
Two Basic to Intermediate level programs were conducted in September 2020 in Pune and Hyderabad and primarily targeted for the early to mid-career level technology management professionals. The programs were delivered through a combination of tailored face-to-face training, case studies, round table discussions and exercises. The program were for a duration of 5 days and includes two courses covering the basic concepts of intellectual property, commercialization and marketing of technologies, licensing, IP evaluation, management of technology transfer offices etc. with application oriented content.
Candidates were selected based on a selection matrix developed in consultation with NBM which assessed their past experience in technology transfer transactions covering, but not limited to, professional and educational background, the nature of IP assets managed along with affiliated institute’s engagement in translational research and capacity in technology transfer etc. The program aims to bring in a diverse pool of applied skills and knowledge to ensure that the outcome of the training is of the utmost quality. Program was open to participants from DBT institutions and incubators in DBT supported bio-clusters and to professionals from public and private academic or research institutions.
Advance Level Training Program
An Advance level Training Program was conducted for a select cohort of the attendees from the basic training program and experience technology management professionals. The candidates were selected based on a selection matrix developed by Sathguru Management Consultants, the Program partner and NBM. The course with integrated and practical approach was aimed to provide hands-on and experiential learning for experienced professionals and was focused on IP Portfolio Management, Spin-out models, Novel technologies and intricate IP elements thereof, Critical components for structuring licensing agreements and research collaboration contracts etc.
